“Best” BBQ

I’m not sure I’d trust BBQ cooked by what appears to be Mr. Tumnus from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. There’s some definite hoof action going on. I also enjoy how the senior citizen on the right is so very naturally dropping a bomb from the marketing department in the middle of her dinner.

I also notice that on the left side of the sign, it’s ‘Open ’til 3am’ but then on the left side, the senior citizen says 24 hours daily. So which is it?

It depends if they’re quoting someone who called it ‘best’. If someone said that ‘EIB is the best supplier of cuisine in the town’ then the ‘best’ is perfectly justified.
However, there is a grammatical error: if you are quoting a person who has said something in the past tense, it’s improper styling to use speech marks. That’s only in a present tense narrative. The correct style is to use quotation marks (inverted commas).

Jonathan: I always thought that the only difference between speech marks and quotation marks was stylistic, and I put that down to font. Huh. I didn’t even know there was a different name for the two.

I object to ’til. Till (two els, no apostrophe) is it’s own word, not a contraction of “until”. Other than that, I’m not sure why this is on wordsplosion.

Doh! Used the wrong “it’s” on a website devoted to making fun of grammatical errors! Excuse me while I commit ceremonial suicide.

Kasey, this sign is advertising three different businesses: Ellis Island’s Metro Pizza, Brewery, and Restaurant. The Metro Pizza is open until 3:00am; the Brewery between 4:00-10:00pm, and the Restaurant is open for 24 hours.

Oops, didn’t mean to put a semicolon in that last sentence!
