  1. I think there’s probably an interesting story behind this one. A second “grand opening” needed for some reason.

At least it isn’t at the Rio Grande.

  2. My husband and I are also spelling wonks. I am wondering how NOT to overwhelm you with submissions. It seems that every sign I pass by has superfluous possessives, at the very least!

Bless you for this noble work. But I fear you will be like the nun back in the 80′s who was in charge of making sure women tourists entering the Vatican didn’t have bare shoulders and too short of skirts. She only lasted a few days.

  3. wb,
We’re aiming for 5 posts a day, 7 days a week. The magic of future-dating allows us to schedule a few days’ worth of posts at a time. If the site’s popularity for its first two days of existence is any indication, it should live a long life!

  4. I should also add that my wife Sarah is helping me filter the submissions, so that should help reduce the burden on me!

  5. Although the rest of this blog is great, this particular sign is fine the way it is. Linguistically speaking, there is actually a difference between a re-grand opening and a grand re-opening. It’s also not uncommon to see similar signs. The difference is that a ‘re-grand opening’ is for a store that was renovated, etc., while it was still open for business, while a grand re-opening means the store was closed for renovations/got new management, etc.

  6. “a ‘re-grand opening’ is for a store that was … still open for business, while a grand re-opening means the store was closed”

That sounds completely made up to me. I HATE it when people say re-grand opening… Grand is not a verb in this case, it’s an adjective. You can’t re-stinky something.
