  1. Are you sure a “two edged sword in their mouth” should be “in their hand” instead?

Revelation 1:16 - “And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.”

  2. The lyrics to the song can be found online. It should be “hand”. Makes sense; it’s hard to praise God while you have a sword in your mouth without drooling a lot.

(Jesus, of course, may have a sword coming from his mouth because he’s magic.)

  3. @Eric– If you pay attention to the context of that verse, it’s talking about *God* with a “sword” coming from his mouth.

The song is about Christians, not God, who do not have swords in their mouths, just their hands. This is a bit strange to be singing about in a hymn or chorus regardless, either way.

  4. I’d be okay with a one-edged sword in my mouth, providing the business end was pointing the right way.

  5. @Bratcher Lev - the verse is about saints, who have presumably died and gone to heaven, not ordinary run-of-the-mill Christians, and who knows what goes on in heaven? Maybe the saints do act like pirates in a Disney movie! :-)

  6. @Eric- Having graduated from a Bible College and spent time in full time ministry, let me assure you, they are talking about themselves here. Christian praise is full of questionable wordings and phrases.

  7. @ Bratcher:

“Christian praise is full of questionable wordings and phrases.”

    LOL!
